Social Thinking Groups

The Social Thinking® groups are geared toward students with average to above average IQs with identified social cognitive deficits.

What

Here at Petaluma Learning & Guidance Counseling (PLGC), we are now offering cutting edge Social Thinking ® groups that bring together students of similar skillsets and ages for weekly therapy sessions. Weekly groups will learn specific social cognitive strategies with which to understand social rules, social expectations and how to connect with others.

Why

Many of us find that interactions with other people come naturally. However, for children with high-functioning autism, Social Language Disorders (Asperger’s Syndrome), ADD, ADHD, social anxiety or self-regulation sensory processing challenges, thinking and succeeding in the social world may not be so easy. For those who face these challenges, social relatedness concepts must be learned and practiced.

Who

This program will be directed by Carol Benson, MA, CCC-SLP, a licensed Speech Language Pathologist with over 25 years of experience in a variety of settings. She specializes in implementing Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking® protocols, which provide the foundation for these groups.
